NUCCA

Dr. Lisa is the only Chiropractor in Chelsea, Michigan Offering NUCCA Technique for Spinal Correction

NUCCA is a gentle and painless chiropractic technique that corrects the alignment of the spine without surgery. Today, only a small percentage of Doctors of Chiropractic practice the NUCCA technique. Thus, it is not uncommon for our patients to travel long distances for a NUCCA spinal correction.
The NUCCA technique is based upon decades of development and research with the aid and assistance of mechanical engineers. Today, technology further assists this technique, involving the use of sophisticated computer programs and analysis tools.
So, how did the NUCCA technique begin? Well, two doctors, Dr. Ralph Gregory of Monroe, and Dr. John Grostic of Ann Arbor, joined together in 1941 to develop an advanced method of upper cervical care. After Dr. Grostic’s death in 1964, Dr. Gregory formed NUCCA (National Upper Cervical Chiropractic Association) to conduct seminars and continue research.
The NUCCA Spinal Correction expands on the theory of upper cervical chiropractic. However, this specific technique works to reduce the number of treatments for patients, allowing for recovery to take place sooner.
NUCCA strives to re-align the head and neck into a straight upright position. This is done by using the atlas (the first bone of the spinal column) as a lever. When the spine is balanced (or aligned), there is no irritation to the brain stem or associated spinal structures, including spinal nerves. Without irritation to the nervous system, the body can function at its optimal level. Overall, an upper cervical correction restores the spine to a normal and aligned state, without the use of drugs or surgery.

Upper Cervical Care

Chiropractic upper cervical care is a specialized branch of chiropractic that focuses on the alignment and adjustment of the uppermost vertebrae in the neck, specifically the atlas (C1) and axis (C2) vertebrae. These two vertebrae are crucial as they house and protect the brainstem, which controls vital functions such as breathing and heart rate. Upper cervical chiropractors employ precise and gentle adjustments to correct misalignments in this region, aiming to restore proper neurological function and alleviate a wide range of health issues. By addressing upper cervical issues, patients may experience relief from conditions like headaches, neck pain, and various neurological disturbances, ultimately promoting overall well-being and optimal health.

Preventative Care

Chiropractic care is valuable for preventive health for several reasons like spinal alignment, pain management, enhanced mobility, stress reduction, improved posture and enhanced immune function. By focusing on spinal health and overall well-being, chiropractic care offers a holistic approach to preventive healthcare, helping individuals maintain a higher quality of life and potentially reducing the need for more invasive interventions down the road.

Injury Recovery and Sports Performance

Chiropractic care is a valuable resource for addressing a wide range of sports injuries. Whether it’s muscle strains, ligament sprains, joint misalignments, or repetitive motion injuries, chiropractors specialize in diagnosing and treating these conditions. By utilizing non-invasive techniques such as spinal adjustments, soft tissue therapy, and rehabilitation exercises, chiropractic care not only helps alleviate pain but also aids in restoring mobility and function. Whether you’re dealing with a recent sports injury or seeking to prevent future ones, chiropractic can provide personalized care to keep you performing at your best.

Brain and Gut Health

Chiropractic care extends its benefits beyond the spine by positively impacting brain and gut health. Proper spinal alignment promotes a well-functioning nervous system, enhancing the brain’s ability to communicate with the rest of the body. This can lead to improved cognitive function and mental clarity. Additionally, a healthy spine can positively influence the gut-brain connection, supporting a balanced digestive system. Chiropractic adjustments can help alleviate issues like stress, tension, and inflammation that may affect both brain and gut health, contributing to an overall sense of well-being.

Migraine and Headaches

Chiropractic care offers a drug-free and effective approach to relieving migraines and headaches. By addressing spinal misalignments that may be contributing to nerve irritation and tension, chiropractors can help reduce the frequency and severity of these painful episodes. Through gentle adjustments, muscle relaxation techniques, and lifestyle guidance, chiropractic care targets the root causes of headaches, providing lasting relief and improved quality of life for those seeking a natural alternative to medication.

Trigeminal Neurolagia

Chiropractic care can offer relief to individuals suffering from trigeminal neuralgia, a painful condition characterized by facial pain. While chiropractors do not treat the condition itself, they focus on addressing spinal misalignments that may contribute to nerve irritation and exacerbate symptoms. Through gentle adjustments and techniques that reduce muscle tension, chiropractic care can alleviate pressure on the trigeminal nerve, potentially providing relief from the severe facial pain associated with this condition. Although results may vary from person to person, chiropractic care offers a natural, non-invasive approach that complements other medical treatments for trigeminal neuralgia.

Bells Palsy

Chiropractic care can provide supportive therapy for individuals dealing with Bell’s palsy, a condition that affects facial muscles and nerves. While chiropractors don’t directly treat Bell’s palsy itself, they focus on optimizing overall nerve function through spinal adjustments. By ensuring proper alignment and reducing nervous system interference, chiropractic care may help enhance neural communication and potentially aid in the recovery process. It’s essential to work in conjunction with medical treatment for Bell’s palsy, and chiropractic care can serve as a complementary approach to promote overall well-being and nerve health.

Tinnitus

Chiropractic care offers a holistic approach to individuals experiencing tinnitus, a condition characterized by ringing or buzzing in the ears. While chiropractors do not directly treat tinnitus, they focus on addressing spinal misalignments, particularly in the upper cervical region, which can affect the nervous system. By optimizing nerve function and blood flow, chiropractic adjustments may help alleviate symptoms or reduce their intensity for some individuals. Although results can vary, chiropractic care can be a valuable part of a comprehensive approach to managing tinnitus and improving overall well-being.

Post Concussion/ TBI

Chiropractic care plays a supportive role in the recovery of individuals dealing with post-concussion syndrome or traumatic brain injuries (TBI). While chiropractors do not treat the injury itself, they focus on optimizing the overall health of the nervous system through gentle spinal adjustments. By reducing misalignments and nervous system interference, chiropractic care may aid in improving cognitive function, reducing headaches, and relieving neck and back pain often associated with concussions and TBIs. It’s crucial to collaborate with medical professionals for comprehensive care, and chiropractic can be an integral part of a multidisciplinary approach to enhance overall well-being and recovery.
