As a parent, you want the best for your child, and that includes ensuring they grow up healthy and strong. One often overlooked aspect of children’s health is the role of upper cervical chiropractic care.
At Precision Spinal Care in Chelsea, MI, Dr. Lisa Olszewski is dedicated to helping children reach their full potential by addressing spinal health from an early age.
In this blog post, we’ll examine the importance of upper cervical care for children and the various ways it can contribute to their well-being.
Why Upper Cervical Care Matters for Children
The upper cervical spine, which consists of the atlas (C1) and axis (C2) vertebrae, plays a crucial role in maintaining the body’s overall balance and functionality.
Misalignments in this area can disrupt nervous system function and have far-reaching effects on a child’s health. By addressing these issues early on, upper cervical chiropractic care can help prevent future health problems and set the foundation for lifelong well-being.
How Upper Cervical Care Can Benefit Your Child
Immune System Support:
The nervous system plays a key role in regulating the immune system. By maintaining proper alignment of the upper cervical spine, chiropractic care can help support your child’s immune function, making them less susceptible to illness.
Improved Posture and Spinal Health:
Poor posture and spinal misalignments are common issues that can develop in childhood and persist into adulthood. Upper cervical care can help correct these problems, promoting proper posture and spinal health.
Reduced Growing Pains:
Many children experience growing pains as their bodies develop. Upper cervical chiropractic care can help alleviate these discomforts by addressing misalignments and promoting proper growth.
Enhanced Sleep Quality:
Sleep is essential for a child’s growth and development. Upper cervical care can help improve sleep quality by addressing issues that may be causing sleep disturbances, such as spinal misalignments or nerve interference.
Improved Concentration and Focus:
Proper nervous system function is vital for cognitive development. Upper cervical chiropractic care can help enhance your child’s focus and concentration by promoting optimal nervous system function.
Support for Developmental Milestones:
Upper cervical care can help support your child’s growth and development by addressing any spinal misalignments that may be hindering their progress.

Summer is here, well, in a few days from now. If you’re a fall athlete, you may find it as a little break when you can go on vacation and enjoy the time with the chaos of running hard and the intricate feat of balancing work and play, though no feeling may compare to when you’re on the field, court, or rink.
However, even if you’re taking a break from sports in the summer doesn’t mean you have to take a break from good health and prepping for the fall. At Precision Spinal Care, serving Chelsea, MI, and the nearby region, we treat athletes through our chiropractic care program and see them on a regular basis. Our Chelsea chiropractor has training in this area and uses this knowledge and her experience to help athletes prevent an injury and improve their game, even on the off season.
So let’s take a few moments to discuss how fall athletes can start preparing for the fall season!
General Information
Though we’re not known for having lengthy heat waves, temperatures are usually in the 80s or higher in July and August. This can make it too hot at times to exercise outdoors if you’re not taking the necessary precautions.
It’s also an excellent time to get your body into better working order, seeing as how you may be less scheduled.
Hydration
One of the main factors to consider when exercising over the summer when it’s hot outside is to get adequate hydration. While you’ve probably heard the “eight glasses of water per day” recommendation more than a time or two, this is a general rule.
Some people may need more water, and some are fine with less. As you’re determining how much water you need, factor in your gender, weight, and activity level. All of these can alter how much water you need.
Since it’s not static across the board, we recommend you take a few sips before you exercise, sip sporadically throughout your exercise, and have a few more once you’re done. The worst way to stay hydrated is to chug a large quality of water before or after your workout. Not only will
it cause you to not feel well, but it can throw off your electrolyte balance and cause a potentially life-threatening condition known as hyponatremia — a sodium-to-water imbalance that causes your cells to swell.
Choose You Time Carefully
You also want to choose the time you exercise carefully. Opt for early in the morning or later in the evening. These are times when the sun isn’t high in the sky, and as a result, isn’t as hot.
Listen to Your Body
Getting physical activity in the summer also entails listening to your body. If you feel thirsty, break for a drink. If you’re very out of breath because of the humidity, take a rest or slow down. You may even need to make some time to sit in the air conditioning for a few.
Though this isn’t necessarily just for summer, make sure you’re listening to your body when you’re feeling pain. That’s your body’s warning sign. A little bit may be helpful in muscle building, but that isn’t the case when you’re in more than just a little pain.
Seek Out Chiropractic Care
As a sports chiropractor in Chelsea, we strongly recommend this one. A body that’s not properly in line and flexible is more susceptible to injury. We can use chiropractic adjustments to ensure your spine and nervous system are in tip-top shape for when it’s time to return to sports.
Part of our chiropractic care also includes stretches that help with function and flexion — two vital components to an athlete.
Our care will also include tips on how to keep active over the summer and work on improving your game, as well as hints you can use on the court, field, or rink.
Just because your season is over doesn’t mean you should just let your body go. Over the summer, you can take vital steps to improve your game and keep in shape, such as seeing a Chelsea sports chiropractor and exercising in the healthiest way for your body. If you’re ready to start your summer training, give us a call at 734-433-9564, or use our online form. We’re helping athletes one spine at a time, one knee at a time, or whatever body part you need help with over the summer at a time!

Perhaps, you’re one of those people who tried just about everything for back pain, well, at least you think. Maybe, you’ve been relying on non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, NSAIDs, to combat the problem.
Fortunately, at Precision Spinal Care, serving Chelsea, MI, and the nearby region, we offer a few different options to help you, ones you may not have tried before and natural ones at that, and one of them is spinal decompression.
Want to know what that is and if it could benefit you? We’ve got the answer!
General Information
Spinal decompression is a type of treatment that stretches your spine. Ultimately, chiropractic spinal decompression uses a traction table and connects you to a device through a series of rigging.
This device will pull on your spine and ultimately change the position of the vertebrae and ease the pressure on the discs. With less pressure on the discs, they then can heal more effectively without the stress.
Besides being able to heal without pressure, this therapy also encourages water, oxygen, and other nutrients to better reach the discs to promote healing.
Conditions Treated
Our Chelsea chiropractor can use this approach to help with a variety of conditions. We may use it alone or with another treatment to optimize your recovery or better manage your condition to the fullest.
For instance, our practitioner may recommend it if you have a bulging disc which stems from weakness in its lining. As a result, the contents of the disc presses on it and causes the disc to bulge. It can then place pressure on the nearby nerves and soft tissue.
We may also recommend it if you have a herniated or slipped disc. With this issue, you have a tear in the outer shell of a disc, possibly from stressing it, though it can happen for an unknown reason, especially as you age and the lining weakens. The contents of the disc can then leak and aggravate the nearby nerves and soft tissue.
Spinal stenosis, a chronic condition that causes the spinal to narrow, can stress the nerves and lead to symptoms such as pain, numbness, and tingling. Some people experience cramping in their legs or feet as a result, depending on the location of the narrowing.
Our Chelsea chiropractor may suggest this therapy if you have degenerative disc disease, which occurs when the discs in your spine change over time. They dry out over time and become less flexible and less able to handle impact. This condition can be painful, especially when you’re sitting, bending, or lifting. You may also have numbness or tingling that extends from the area of the affected discs down one or both extremities.
We may also use non-surgical spinal decompression for sciatica, and nerve root damage, to name a few examples.
Safety
As a general rule, spinal decompression is a safe procedure for most patients. Since some people shouldn’t receive this therapy, we’ll provide you with a thorough examination prior to administering this treatment or any others.
During the assessment, our Chelsea chiropractor will ask you to complete a medical history report and ask questions about any issues or surgeries you’ve had in the past, among other information. Sometimes, our practitioner may recommend imaging to further assure your safety.
Some examples of people we may not recommend non-surgical spinal decompression to include pregnant women, those with severe osteoporosis, or patients who received hardware, like screws or plates, during back surgery.
At Precious Spinal Care, we’re spinal experts who are happy to be able to provide our patients with spinal decompression that can effectively help with pain and encourage a solid recovery from certain injuries. At our practice, our goal is to help people in Chelsea, a spine at a time, live their best lives possible.
Book an appointment today if you have unresolved back pain and would like to discuss if spinal decompression is right for you. We’re available by calling 734-433-9564 or using our convenient online form.
In today’s fast-paced world, stress has become an unwelcome, yet constant companion for many of us. While it’s essential to find effective ways to manage stress, one often-overlooked approach is upper cervical chiropractic care.
At Precision Spinal Care in Chelsea, MI, Dr. Lisa Olszewski is committed to helping her patients tackle stress head-on by addressing the underlying issues that contribute to it.
In this blog post, we’ll dive into the relationship between upper cervical care and stress relief, and how this holistic approach can lead to a more balanced, relaxed life.
Understanding the Stress-Spine Connection
The upper cervical spine, composed of the atlas (C1) and axis (C2) vertebrae, is crucial for maintaining the body’s overall balance and nervous system function. When these vertebrae become misaligned, it can lead to an array of health issues, including increased stress and tension.
This misalignment can disrupt nervous system communication, causing the body to remain in a heightened state of stress. By correcting these misalignments through upper cervical chiropractic care, we can help restore nervous system function and promote relaxation.
How Upper Cervical Care Can Help Reduce Stress
Improved Nervous System Function: Upper cervical care can help restore proper nervous system function by realigning the atlas and axis vertebrae, allowing the body to better adapt to and manage stress.
Alleviation of Tension and Muscle Tightness: Chronic stress often results in muscle tension and tightness, particularly in the neck and shoulders. Upper cervical chiropractic care can help relieve this tension, promoting relaxation and a sense of calm.
Enhanced Sleep Quality: Stress can take a toll on sleep quality, making it difficult to relax and fall asleep. By addressing spinal misalignments and promoting relaxation, upper cervical care can help improve sleep quality, which is essential for overall well-being.
Reduced Headaches and Migraines: Stress can trigger headaches and migraines in many individuals. Upper cervical chiropractic care can help alleviate these symptoms by correcting misalignments and improving nervous system function.
Greater Emotional Balance: By restoring optimal nervous system function and promoting relaxation, upper cervical care can help improve emotional balance and resilience, making it easier to cope with daily stressors.
